Mating
Mating your two chinchilla's can be a very dangerous and unsafe process.
Sometimes a male will want to mate with the female, but maybe the female isn't ready. The female will then fight with the male, or be VERY upset
and convulsed most of the time.
When your chinchilla gives birth/before giving birth, you MUST move the male to another cage. As the male will kill the newborn babies, or disturb the mother.
Sometimes during the birthing process, a baby might die, and then the mother will eat the dead newborn.
The mother cleans the baby off, and pulls them out one by one with her teeth gently.
Since chinchillas' are born with their eyes open, in 2-4 days they can be handled, and sold (if wanted).
The average chinchilla gestation period is 102-111 days (~4 months). But it all depends on the number of babies from, 1 - 4.
